The lens of the eye is a transparent structure located behind the iris, which helps to refract light to be focused on the retina at the back of the eye. In a patient with cataracts, this lens becomes cloudy in some locations. Depending on the location and severity of cataracts, vision may be impaired and cataract surgery may be required to restore vision.
