Deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) is a surgical procedure for removing the corneal stroma down to Descemet’s membrane. In a DALK transplant, the front of the cornea is replaced, leaving the back of the cornea in place. This is the safest type of corneal transplant but is usually only possible in corneas that have not deteriorated too far.
